Tubular Battery

The plate is the battery. Tubular construction is how a lead acid cell earns a decades-long service brief.

Inside every lead acid battery, the positive plate does the dying: its active material softens, sheds and loses contact across cycles until capacity fades. The tubular plate attacks that mechanism directly — the active material is packed into porous gauntlet tubes around a central spine, mechanically held in place for the cell’s whole life. Shedding is contained, corrosion is slowed, and deep discharge stops being an insult. That is the entire engineering argument of the tubular battery, and it is why OPzV and OPzS cells dominate stationary service where replacement means a crane, a crew and a planned outage.

XD Battery’s tubular output comes in the two electrolyte disciplines the industry defines: OPzV, gelled and sealed, and OPzS, flooded and inspectable, both in 2V cells — the documented models are OPzS 500Ah and 1000Ah and OPzV 800Ah and 1000Ah. The choice between them is operational, not electrochemical — sealed versus attended — and our blog guide works it through with the string-design arithmetic.

Where tubular earns its premium

Are tubular batteries worth it for a small solar home?

Usually the arithmetic favours 12V gel blocks at small scale; tubular cells win as banks grow and years accumulate. Send us the bank size and we will show both quotes.

What sizes exist?

Documented models: OPzS 500Ah and 1000Ah, OPzV 800Ah and 1000Ah — all 2V cells.
